Mermaid or Whale?

Posted in Uncategorized on December 12, 2009 by witchygodmother

Recently, in a large French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tanned woman appeared in the window of a gym.

It said: “THIS SUMMER DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE?”

A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern:

Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans). They have an active sex life, they get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins, stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Barren Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia. Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don’t exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human? They don’t have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them, not to mention how could they have sex? Therefore they don’t have kids either. Not to mention who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me; I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver and a coffee with my friends. With time we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren’t heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, “Good gosh, look how smart I am!”

The Wigglian Way reads a brand new story

Posted in Uncategorized on December 9, 2009 by witchygodmother

Mojo and Sparrow at the Wigglian Way read my newest story called the Witch and the Wizard – A Solstice Tale on episode 61.  I was so excited and pleased to hear it.

http://thewigglianway.libsyn.com/

There are three stories of Rowan and May.  Here are the intros to each of them.

The Wizard, the Witch and the Queen

This story does not have a happy ending for No tale does when jealousy wins

Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom there lived a Witch of golden hair whose name was May. When she was young she found she could do magic. Her mother told her that she was a Witch and that she should find a teacher when she was old enough. The little girl waited and looked first for a teacher near her home but there was none to be found. When she was old enough to set out on her own, she did. She packed her favourite things and kissed her mother and father and sister farewell as she excitedly headed to the nearby kingdom where she had heard there were many Witches and Wizards. She made friends on her way for she was a friendly Witch and always had love and smiles to share with everyone. Although she had many friends, none she had met was a teacher of Witchcraft. She learned what she could through books she found and was careful with her magic. Years past and she was in despair of ever finding a teacher for her and even convinced herself that perhaps the Great Spirits did not mean for her to find a teacher. So, she continued healing as she could being as helpful as well. Everyone near and far loved the sweet woman. Her smile was as golden as her hair. One day she was walking near the castle gardens looking for some special herbs. She was so intent on looking that she bumped into someone. “Oh, I am so sorry.” She exclaimed. The older man in wizard robes, smiled at her with twinkling eyes…

Now the adventures of Rowan and May begin…. (the two other intros will be posted in the future)

Happy Samhain

Posted in Musings with tags on October 31, 2009 by witchygodmother

Wishing everyone a Happy Halloween and a Joyous Samhain.  Whatever you get up to this night be safe and have a wonderful time.  Aunt Clara and I will be giving out treats to all the little ones in the neighbourhood.  It is always so much fun.  Our decorations are not so much scary as cute and the little ones love them.  Especially our little flying bat that whirls around and around.  Seems even the grown-ups love that one too.

Special time with the ancestors will be later in the quiet time of the night.

The Phoenix Who Was Afraid of Fire

Posted in Stories with tags on October 18, 2009 by witchygodmother

phoenixOnce upon a time, in a fiery part of the world there lived the Phoenixes. They are amazing birds as everyone knows. They live a very, very long time and when they are a hundred years old, they burst into flames to hatch and rise again as a young bird again. And yes, just as you have heard their tears are magical and can heal anyone of anything. They are also very strong and very loyal friends. Now to a Phoenix fire is like water to us. Of course for us, fire is not good to touch and one must always respect it. Fire burns us very badly but for a Phoenix well, fire is well…. Fun.    (Except for one….. )

Passing the Purple Hat

Passing the Purple Hat to You

In honour of women’s history month and in memory of Erma Bombeck who lost her fight with cancer.IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER – by Erma Bombeck

(written after she found out she was dying from cancer).

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren’t there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the ‘good’ living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace..

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn’t show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, ‘Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.’ There would have been more ‘I love you’s’ More ‘I’m sorry’s.’

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute.look at it and really see it . live it and never give it back. STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!!

Don’t worry about who doesn’t like you, who has more, or who’s doing what. Instead, let’s cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

Maybe we should all grab that purple hat earlier.

Preview to Little Pumpkin

Little Pumpkin

Once upon a time, in the land of Halloween there was a lady vampire named Pumpkin. Pumpkin looked like all the other lady vampires. She was tall and very, very pale. Her lips were blood red and her dark blue eyes glowed red. Pumpkin had long sharp white teeth as well, perfect for feeding on blood like all the other vampires in the Realm. Now of course, you know that there had to be a few things different about Pumpkin or there would not be a story about her, now would there?

Things to be thankful for

Posted in Musings with tags on October 9, 2009 by witchygodmother

Because sometimes we forget in our comfy world that not all got to live as we do or get to live as we do even now….sorry for those who don’t get to see the pictures.

John C. Maxwell:
“Everything
you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don’t want
to believe that. But if you’re over age twenty-one, your life is what
you’re making of it. To change your life, you need to change your
priorities.”

“Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing.”
William James

An important history lesson!

This is the story of women who were ground-breakers. These brave women from the early 1900s made all the difference in the lives we live today.

Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but
when, in North America, women picketed in front of
the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote, they were jailed.

And by the end of the first night in jail, those women were barely alive.
Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden’s blessing
went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of
‘obstructing sidewalk traffic.’

(Lucy Burns)
They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above
her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping
for air.

(Dora Lewis)
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed
her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate,
Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack.
Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging,
beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

Thus unfolded the’Night of Terror’ on Nov. 15, 1917,
when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his
guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because
they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson’s White House for the right
to vote.

For weeks, the women’s only water came from an open pail. Their
food–all of it colorless slop–was infested with worms.

(Alice Paul)
When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited.
She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

All women who have ever voted, have ever owned property, have ever enjoyed equal rights need to remember that women’s rights had to be fought for in Canada as well. Do our daughters and our sisters know the price that was paid to earn rights for women here, in North America?

2009 is the 80th Anniversary of the Persons Case in Canada,
which finally declared women in Canada to be Persons!

Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know, so that we remember to celebrate the rights we enjoy.

“Knowledge is Freedom: hide it, and it withers; share it, and it blooms” (P. Hill)
